Event Promotion Design Rationalé
Design objective: Create a new exhibit for the Denver Art Museum and promotion pieces for a members-only gala.
The client is the Denver Art Museum, located at 100 W 14th Ave Pkwy, Denver, Colorado. The mission of the Denver Art Museum is to enrich the lives of present and future generations through the acquisition, presentation, and preservation of works of art, supported by exemplary scholarship and public programs related to both its permanent collections and to temporary exhibitions presented by the museum.
This campaign has two audiences:
1. The client wants to reach their current museum members, which include adult men and women, couples, and families who live within 25 miles of Denver. The income of their target market is middle class to upper class. The target audience has an appreciation for art in many forms, including the museum’s architectural design.
2. The client also wants to reach other non-member visitors to the museum, which is the same target audience as current museum members. The Denver Art Museum is also trying to reach seniors (ages 65+), members of the military, and college students, by offering admission discounts. Children under 18 are given free admission.
This campaign has two purposes:
1. To promote the Art in Bloom—Experience the Digital World of Watercolor exhibit to all museum visitors, whether members or non-members.
2. To promote the private members-only Gala to museum members only.
Design Solution: The artwork included is the museum logo and museum exhibit artwork. Different flowers are reversed out in white in front of digital watercolor artwork which will appeal to the audience because it is unique to how traditional watercolor is created. Emphasis on the flowers in the optical center of the poster creates visual flow from the top to the bottom. The artwork framing the right-aligned text on the top, side and bottom creates balance in the poster and in the invitation. The color scheme consists of a deep rose color and a bright green as well as mixes and variations of those colors. A serif font is chosen to convey formality and is also used in irony to contrast the modern technique of digital watercolor with a traditional style of font.
